The FIP (Family Intervention Project) has been operational in Brighton and Hove for 4 years. The project targets families who are at risk of eviction due to their persistent anti-social behaviour which is impacting on their neighbourhood. Priority is given to those families where there is an additional risk of the children becoming ‘Looked After’ by the local authority.
In April 2009 further funding was received by the DCSF, from the Youth Crime Action Plan to widen the support offered using the FIP model. A Youth Crime FIP that focuses on working with families where there is a child identified as being at risk of offending is now established and working with families.
A successful bid has recently secured funding for working with Women Offenders and their families. In addition, three housing providers (Hyde, Affinity Sutton and Brighton & Hove Council Housing) provided match funding via the Challenge fund which enabled a further expansion of the ASB FIP.
FIP works with families to reduce/prevent offending and anti-social behaviour so they are no longer at risk of eviction or disrupting their community. We try to strike a balance between the needs and safety of the community, using enforcement tools where necessary and providing intensive support to families.
FIP will attempt to help the family keep their home. Where this is not possible the family might be considered for a Family Intervention Tenancy, where they will be supported through the process of their eviction and relocation.
